SCHOOL NEWS – May

In the month of May there are many things happening like…

5th and 6th class made buns with Mrs. Haskins…

The 2nd class will make their communion…

There will be lots of Birthdays in May…

The Green- Schools committee will go to Dublin to receive our Green Flag…

3rd ,4th, 5th and 6th class will compete in a draughts tournament…

This month 5th and 6th class made buns with Mrs. Haskins and we also decorated and iced them.

You will need…

8oz of margarine

8oz of caster sugar

4 eggs

11oz of self-raising flour

1tsp of vanilla extract

Step1. Preheat the oven at 180 degrees for 20-25 minutes

Step2. Mix your margarine and caster sugar together

Step3. Add your vanilla extract and mix

Step4. Add in 2 eggs and mix

Step5. Add in ½ of your flour and mix

Step6. Add the other 2 eggs and mix

Step7. Add the other ½ of the flour and mix

Step8. Add your milk and mix

Step9. Put your mixture in cases and put them in the oven.

Step10. Take them out and decorate.

Then you’re done.

Science Fair

We had our annual Science Fair and it was a brilliant success as usual! There were twenty groups altogether in 3rd ,4th,5th and 6th class. In Ms.Moores classroom (5th and 6th) there were the following groups:- The flight group, they had three parts, Military Aeroplanes, The Elastic Aeroplane and how it works and All about Birds(they had a real bird on display!). Then there was the Global Warming Group, they spoke about Climate Change and Recycling. The next group was the Surface Tension, Their experiment was the dancing raisins. Colour-changing milk was next. They changed the colour of milk for their experiment. Next was the delicious Chocolate group, they showed us how it’s made and gave out samples. Then there was the Cows’ Lungs and Pigs’ Heart Group… they dissected them Eeeewwh! And last but not least… The Health and Fitness group. They made their own germs!!! It was a very enjoyable day and I think we all learned a lot!

The winners are:

1st = The Health and Fitness Group (Tara F, Ashley S,Aoife M G and Emily B)

2nd= The Global Warming Group (Jessica B, Shane O’ B , Michael J and Clodagh H)

3rd = Colour Changing Milk (Danielle F and Ciara K)

Highly Commended = Water Tension (Sarah K, Emma K and Jimmy W)

Highly Commended Individual Student= Robyn M =)

Congratulations to all the students who took part in this event and everyone did a brilliant job :D

Also this month the Confirmation class had their retreat in Rathoe church!!! Pamela Whelan spoke to them and they did a bit of meditation. They also had a talk from Damien McDonald about the importance of Jesus in our family.

We have received another Primary Science Award for the fourth time in a row! Thanks to Mrs. Moore, Mr. Browne and Ms. Doyle for putting it altogether. Also thanks to the students from 3rd-6th class for their brilliant artwork and reports. Well done!!!
