Sports Day 2010
Our annual sports day took place in June. The emphasis was on participation not competition and it is great to report that all the children embraced that spirit. the children participated in a wide range of fun activites.
Mr. O Reilly ran off the soccer World Cup finals on the same day. He presented each of the winning teams with Samba soccer kits and the runners up with footballs.
We thank him sincerely for his time, generosity and dedication.
Heineken Cup
On Thursday, local hero and Leinster and Ireland Rugby player Sean O’Brien paid us a visit to show the Heineken Cup to the children. He was very generous with his time and visited every classroom where he spoke about his career to date and his aspirations for the future. We wish him a speedy recovery and all the best with his future plans. 5th & 6th attended the Rugby Blitz at Tullow Rugby Club on Wednesday 24th March.

Pat Bermingham Memorial Cup: hard luck to our great footballers who played out of their skins recently but were narrowly defeated by Newtown N.S. Thanks to Mr. Browne who has done great work all year round with our football teams and they are certainly showing the benefits of his expertise. Here’s to next year!

Local sporting hero Sean O Brien visits our school
Leinter team member and past pupil Seán O Brien paid us a visit on May 20th, where he spoke to the assembled school about the path to becoming a Leinster player and his hopes for the Heineken Cup Final. The children were delighted with the visit and we thank Sean for taking the time out of his busy schedule to be with us.

Cumann na mBunscoil
Congratulations to the girls who overcame stiff opposition on the day and made it to the semi-finals in Tinryland. They played Bennekerry in the semi final and put up a great performance but were narrowly defeated. Equally the boys did very well and were narrowly defeated. Both teams did very well this year despite moving up to a higher division because of the growth in size of the school. Thanks to Mr. Browne for all his continued hard work.
Spanish Dancing

There was plenty of fun for everyone in Rathoe NS on Fri 13th March when pupils from Junior infants to 6th class showed off their Céilí dancing skills for their parents. As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge and with St. Patricks Day just around the corner, the children, dressed up in their green attire, danced The Walls of Limerick and The Siege of Ennis. Thanks to our senior girls Orlagh O Byrne, Ashley Larkin, Elaine Aughney & Ciara Kirwan for all their help in preparing the classes for the event.
Mr. Ciarán Kelly on behalf of the Fighting Cocks GAA club, presented Mr. Browne with some new football equipment on the day. We wish to thank the Fighting Cocks for their kind donation to the school.

Rugby
The 5th & 6th Class attended a one day rugby blitz in Tullow Rugby Club on Wed, 18th March.
They played against some of the other local schools in the Carlow area and did themselves and their school proud on the day. Well done to all involved!
