March was designated water awareness month at our school and this theme was integrated across the curriculum in many subject areas in every class from infants up to 6th Class. 2010-2011 News

1st Class Recital

Monday was a very exciting day in First Class as the children prepared for their first public performance for their parents, since they began taking violin lessons, only last March. The children have taken the lessons very seriously and have practised every morning with their teacher Ms O’Brien as well as a lesson every Monday with Mrs Bolton with the assistance of Ms Doyle and Ms Doran. Thanks to all who got behind this project.

The performance today was excellent, and they showed great technique in holding the violin, and in their playing. Also taking part were 4 lovely Irish dancers, Faye O’Reilly, Ellie Ray Byrne, Aoife Kirwan and Amy Mannion, who gave us some fabulous dancing. Thanks very much girls! Then followed some Irish tunes from Shane and Niamh Nolan on the violin and tin whistle. Very nice Shane and Niamh and good luck in the Fleadh Ceoil this summer! We also had some beautiful sweet singers from 3rd class and Mr Folan. Again thank you- it was very nice indeed.

Ms O’Brien has been very supportive in getting this project up and running and it has been a great success thanks to her dedication. Mile buíochas Ms O’Brien!

Ostinato Drumming Workshop

Ostinato Drumming workshop with Eddie Sheahan took place for all classes. The children had a great time practising different rhythms and making music together.

Be Safe on the Web

To mark Safer Internet Day 2011, pupils from 3rd to 6th class received a lesson in Internet Safety on Tuesday, 24th May. The lesson enabled discussion and exploration of students’ personal safety issues when using the Internet, such as the responsible use of social networking sites, procedures for protecting personal safety and security when on-line and students’ awareness of the potential risks in disclosing personal information or photos on-line.  Each child also received an activity pack and a parental advice booklet to bring home. Thanks to our guest speaker Mark Richards from Microsoft Ireland for such a valuable and informative talk.

 Fundraising for Kenya

We had  a very interesting visitor to our school on Wednesday 13th April. Mrs Vonnie Bolten gave a wonderful talk and showed us photos on the IWB of her time spent travelling Kenya recently. The children learned of the poverty and hardship that is experienced in Kenya. It makes us all realise how fortunate we are and the importance of fundraising to help others who are less fortunate than ourselves. The children have responded enthusiastically with a great fundraising effort by purchasing lovely Easter chicks which Mrs. Bolten has made. We thank her sincerely for taking the time to speak to the children.
